6: Jesus is crowned with thorns

Jesus is subject to mockery from soliders and, in particular, scourging - whips; the pain only punctuates the constant agony of the cruel crown of thorns.

Jesus is crowned with thorns

Pilate had Jesus flogged, handing him over to be crucified. The governor's soldiers took Jesus to the Praetorium; the whole company of soldiers stripped him, put a scarlet robe on him, twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a reed in his right hand and knelt in front of him and mocked him. 'Hail, king of the Jews!'
Matthew 27:26-29

Not content with unjustly condemning Jesus to death, Pilate has Jesus whipped, signalling to the soldiers that they can treat him however they like.
